Saudi Arabia’s Ambitious Project to Restore Degraded Lands

NCVC Deploys Advanced Technology for Environmental Sustainability

Saudi Arabia is taking a bold step towards combating desertification with the launch of a large-scale initiative to assess and rehabilitate degraded lands across key regions. The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has initiated a groundbreaking project covering Makkah, Madinah, Baha, Asir, Jazan, and Najran.

Utilising cutting-edge technologies, including remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the initiative aims to identify environmentally affected areas and implement targeted rehabilitation plans. These efforts are aligned with international sustainability standards and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 strategy, which emphasises ecological preservation and sustainability.

By focusing on restoring vegetation cover and mitigating the impact of climate change, the NCVC’s project is expected to enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and bolster local ecosystems. This initiative reinforces the Kingdom’s commitment to environmental responsibility and global efforts to combat desertification.
