Innovative Water Purification Tech Scales Up in Major Sustainability Move

Saudi Arabia Expands Innovative Water Purification Tech in Sustainability Push
Saudi Arabia is advancing its clean water strategy with the rollout of capacitive deionization (CDI) – an energy-efficient, chemical-free technology that uses electric charge to purify drinking water.

Stockholm Water Technology has partnered with DRC-ChemTec to deploy 1,750 CDI systems over the next four years, purifying up to 3,500 cubic metres per day.

Unlike traditional desalination methods (thermal & reverse osmosis), CDI offers:

Lower energy use

Minimal waste generation

No need for membrane filters or chemicals

Future phases include:

Treating wastewater for agricultural reuse.

Removing micropollutants like pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

Expanding into industrial and municipal water applications.

“Saudi Arabia’s water treatment market is at the forefront of sustainable practices,” said Karthik Laxman, CEO of Stockholm Water Technology.

This move supports Vision 2030’s goals of localisation, environmental sustainability, and smarter infrastructure across critical sectors.
